Grading Student Written Responses on Penda Learning

Penda Learning now allows teachers to grade students' written responses on assignments.

Step 1: Access Your Assignments

1. From the left navigation bar, under Teacher, click Assignments.

Step 2: View an Assignment

1. Find the assignment by name. 

• Tip: Scroll through the list or use the search bar to find an assignment by name.  You can also view assignments by date range and sort by due or past due.

2. Click the View icon on the right side of the assignment row.

   • For Super Assignments, this shows combined data for all classes in one scrollable view. Use the expand button to open data for each class separately, then use the view icon next to a particular class.

   • For Single Assignments, the Eyeball Icon opens data for that class only.

Step 2: Navigate to the Grading Screen

1. From the Activities section, there are Action buttons, select Grade . The button will only be active if there is a component to grade.

2. Clicking the Grade button will take you to a screen where you can evaluate each student's written responses for that assignment.

Step 3: View Writing Tasks    

1. Questions requiring a written response will appear on the left side of the screen. For each task, you will see the writing prompt given to the student and a detailed rubric for evaluation. 

Step 4: Evaluate Student Responses

1. Scroll down to see each student's response. You can give partial, full, or no credit based on their answers.

   Leave Feedback:

   Optionally, leave feedback for individual students to clarify misconceptions and guide them towards mastery.

Step 5: Finalize Grades

Once you have assigned credit and left comments, click the Grade button to lock in your grade for that response. The student will receive a notification and be able to see any comments you have left.
