2024 Fall Updates
NGSS Activity Section Breaks
To enhance the experience for students working on longer NGSS activities, we've introduced new section breaks between screens. Upon completing each section, students will receive points and encounter a confirmation pop-up that locks their answers once confirmed. They will earn preliminary rewards such as credits and XP for the completed screens. While students can review the content afterward, their answers remain unchangeable. Both students and teachers will be able to monitor progress through these activities. These breaks are designed to encourage and reward students as they advance through each activity, motivating them to finish strong.
Student UI Improvements
We've updated the colors of score circles on assignment cards, allowing students to easily see their best score for each activity.
Immersive Reader Teacher Control
By default, all students have access to the Immersive Reader and language translator tools. We’ve now added a toggle feature that allows teachers to enable or disable these tools for individual students directly from the Dashboard.
Leaderboard High Score Enhancement
We’ve improved the leaderboard ranking logic: when students have identical scores, those who achieved the score earlier will now rank higher than their peers.
Report Builder
The activities view in the left panel has been reworked from a 'tree view' to a 'list view,' improving visibility and simplifying interaction. This change enhances the usability and makes it easier to manage selected activities.
Collaborative Mission Launch
- We’ve introduced the Planetary Mission – a global goal where students can now collaborate, not just with their classmates but also with students from other schools. (Sneak peek before the official release!)
- A reward system has been implemented: upon completing the Planetary Mission, participants will earn rewards, such as credits, avatar items, or materials for the Collaborative Mission.
- Map enhancements provide a more detailed and engaging experience for students.
- Short videos are now available to explain the storyline of the Collaborative Mission as students unlock new chapters.
- We've introduced the "Handshake" mechanic, enabling students to assist one another in reducing the time needed for building assets. By sending an anonymous request, classmates can shorten the timer by 2 minutes with a simple click.
- The tutorial has been updated and simplified, offering a more enjoyable journey through the Space Craft world. This includes a clear explanation of the new Handshake mechanic.
The new Create Assignment flow now includes Assessments!
- An assessment has a strict time limit for students to complete it, it does not allow them to review their work or retry completed activities.
- Updated the first step of the Create New Assignment flow. Teachers can now select a type of assignment, with two options available: Standard and Assessment.
- When creating a standard assignment, a teacher can control whether students can review their work, retry an activity, use the immersive reader, or access the assignment after it's due. A toggle is available for each option. For assessments, all toggles are off and disabled.
- Implemented an icon for assessment records on the Assignments page to enable teachers to easily identify assessments versus standard assignments. Additionally, a corresponding badge has been added to the top-right corner of the Assessment View page.
- Implemented a specific card view for assessments in the Student UI. The assessment card has several states. Once an assessment is started, a timer appears to inform students of the time remaining before the assessment expires. The timer is visible on both the assessment card and in the header of the activity view.
