How to Use the Walkthrough Feature
The Walkthrough feature allows teachers to guide students through an activity one screen at a time. When Walkthrough is enabled, the teacher projects their screen while students follow along on their own devices and advance only when directed. This helps keep students focused and working together.
Walkthrough is ideal for whole-class instruction, guided practice, and classroom discussions. Teachers can use it to:
- Teach or review a concept together as a class
- Move through activities at a teacher-led pace, pausing for discussion or explanation
- Check for understanding during a lesson
- Monitor how many students have responded before discussing answers
How to Use Walkthrough
Step 1: Find an Assigned Activity
- Locate an existing PAS assignment or a teacher-assigned activity. Make sure students are logged in and have access. For more information: How to View Assignment Reports (Teacher)
Step 2: Start the Walkthrough
- Open the Assignment Report for the assignment. Under the Activities chart, find the activity and select the Walkthrough icon
on the right.
- Project your screen so students can see which screen they should be on.
View students on the same page as you:
- Hover over the eyeball icon.
- View how many and which students are on the same page as you.
View how many students completed the activity:
- Hover over the xx/xx icon next to Students Completed.
- View how many and which students completed this activity.
- This area also indicates the percentage of students that have completed the activity.
Step 3: Guide Students Through the Activity
- Review each screen with your class. Read aloud or allow students to read independently.
- Give students time to answer questions before moving on.
-
Use the Show Answers toggle button and Show Explanations toggle button as needed. When ready, tell students to advance to the next screen.
Show Explanations
- The Show Explanations feature is available only on screens that include questions. Turn on the toggle for Show Explanations, as when available, a light bulb icon
appears in the top-right corner that teachers can click to view explanations.
Additional Rules
- Note: The Show Explanations feature is available for NGSS activities and other state activities, including current Florida activities. However, it is NOT available for "legacy" Florida activities (Developing, Achieving, Exceeding).
- Important: Student responses are recorded only when students move to the next screen. Be sure students complete their answers before advancing. Students may need to click the Back button to get back to the same question screen as the teacher.
Pro-Tips for Teachers
- Clearly tell students when to answer and when to wait
- Allow enough time for responses before moving forward
- Review responses before advancing
Troubleshooting
- If responses are missing, confirm students have advanced to the next screen
- If fewer students than are in the class appear on a screen, some may be on a previous or later screen
- Final activity scores appear only after all parts of the activity are completed. The completion indicator may not appear until the assignment has ended.
